Jamal Wasswa has weighed in on the evolution of the music industry, arguing that today’s generation of artists has a much easier path to success compared to those who came before them.
Speaking during a YouTube podcast interview, Jamal pointed to the rise of social media platforms, particularly TikTok, as a game-changer in how music is promoted and consumed.
According to him, modern artists cannot claim to be struggling when they have access to tools that can instantly push their music to massive audiences.
The new generation has not struggled with music. You cannot convince me that they are struggling, especially with platforms like TikTok.
Reflecting on his own journey, the singer explained that promoting music in the past was a physically demanding and time-consuming process. Artists had to move from place to place distributing their songs manually, often using CDs.
In our era, music was like home delivery, door to door. You had to move with your song on a CD to every venue, and sometimes the CD could even break along the way.
In recent years, platforms like TikTok have played a major role in turning unknown talents into overnight stars in Uganda and beyond, with just a single viral song or sound capable of launching a career.
